He dedicated his life to protecting our country, serving as an officer in the Air Force for 27 years.

He wasa WWII pilot, flying the P-61 Black Widow in the Pacific Rimof Operations, he flew the F-94Star Fighter in the Korean war, and completed his post war careerin Air Defense Command(NORAD). He retired from Hamilton Air Force Base, CA in 1970. He resided in Rio Linda, CA until his death on April 2, 2009. He passed away peacefully. He was preceded in death by his true love Irene.

Survived by sons: David Ramey, Steven Lambert (June) andDon- ald Ramey (Mary Jo); daughters: Kathleen Mierau, Katherine Smith (Jim), Ronee Gray Pelton (Michel), Debra Lyon (Jeff), and Diane Heald (Greg). Jack was predeceased by his wife of65 years, Clara Mae Owen on June 17, 2006. Also predeceased by his parents Howard Donald Owen and Mildred Ellen Owen and his sister Patricia Jeanne. Jack is survived by his loving children, Michael Owen, Shane Owen (Diana), Stephen Owen, Melinda DeMera (Dan), 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister in law, Florence Evelyn Hoover of Leavenworth, KS. Jack served in the U.S.

Army Air Corps, 464th Bomb group, as a Gunner on the B24 Liberator during World War II. Jack held many positions throughout his life. He worked for the Coca ColaBottling Company, Grapette Bottling Company, Sunshine Biscuit Company and Hertel Construction Company before becoming the general manager of the Sacramento Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce, the Executive Vice President of the Carmichael Chamber of Commerce and the Executive Vice President of the Eureka Chamber of Commerce. Jack served on many Boards including Chapter Chairman of the Sacramento Area American Red Cross, president of the Volunteers of America Advisory Board and Auxiliary, Chairman of the Sacramento Lions Club White Cane Days, president of the Sacramento Civic Ballet Association and a member of the Mercy Hospital Foundation Board. Family and friends are invited to the visitation on Thursday, April 9, 2009 from 4:00 to 8:00 and the funeral service on Friday, April 10, 2009, 12:00 pm, at Mount Vernon Memorial Park andMortuary 8201 Greenback Lane, Fair Oaks, CA.

Maxine was89 years old. Her husband, Kenneth Floyd Sly, preceded her and she is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Carol and Pier Simpson, five grandchildren, Kenneth, Jeffrey, Sharon, Karon, and Colin, 16 great-grandchildren and twogreat-great-grandchil- dren. Maxine, affectionately called GiGi by her family, lived a full life. She was happiest sitting in a boat, on a lake, with a fishing pole in her hands. She loved the outdoors and camping with her family. She proved her toughness by riding her horse Blaze on the premier endurance horse ride in the world, the Tevis, 100 miles in one day in 1966. She led her family through four generations of Tevis completions.

Maxine regularly mastered allcrossword puzzles and participatedin National Scrabbletournaments. She made her national presence known on Family Feud TV show in 1990. Maxine had an insatiable and a master at making homemade brown sugar candy. She single-handedly consumed enough Candyto annually increase the dividend by 50 cents.Maxine smiled through the depression, maintained her home and family while her husband was gone for 3 years fighting in the Pacific during WWII. She was a beautiful and radiant woman who inspired those who knew her.
